Align Incentives with the Expectation of Teaching Excellence

In 2014, the University of Michigan launched an NSF-funded program to reinvent introductory teaching and learning in the core STEM disciplines.  REBUILD (Researching Evidence-Based Undergraduate Instructional and Learning Developments) aimed to promote recruitment, retention, and academic excellence in STEM disciplines by catalyzing the use of evidence-based teaching methods and learning analytics.  Toward this end, REBUILD faculty and postdocs led reform efforts in traditionally lecture-based, high-enrollment courses and labs in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Physics.
UKanTeach expands to the University of Kansas Edwards campus, bringing high-quality academic programs, research and public service to the greater Kansas City community to serve the workforce, economic and community development needs of the region.
Seeking to raise the level of STEM literacy, the UKanTeach STEM Teacher Preparation Program provided a leverage point to address STEM literacy at multiple levels of formal schooling. Since UKanTeach students are regular undergraduate STEM discipline majors it became very important that CSTEM understand the major learning outcomes as they emerged with their majors.
The mission of an AAU-UCD partnership is to foster evidence-based, sustainable innovation in STEM instruction through development of cultures of data and evidence around instruction and learning that encourage experimentation, build urgency, and enable change.
The conference on Transforming Institutions: 21st Century Undergraduate STEM Education brings together change leaders from academia, government, and industry to explore research-based practices, strategies and challenges for institutional transformation, especially as related to STEM education.
The Curriculum Innovation Fund is Princeton University's principal resource for supporting innovation in the undergraduate curriculum. With the endorsement of their department or program, faculty members may submit proposals for new or reimagined courses in any subject at any level.
Northwestern University Ventures in Biology Education (nuViBe) aims to reshape Northwestern undergraduate bioscience education and prepare students to pursue cutting-edge research, advanced degrees, and professional careers in biological and biomedical sciences.
To advance undergraduate education, the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) at Northwestern provides professional development programs for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in STEM and SBE (social, behavioral, economic) disciplines.
