Governing Law/Forum

These Terms of Use are governed by the internal substantive laws of the District of Columbia, without respect to its conflict of laws principles.

You expressly agree that exclusive jurisdiction for any dispute with AAU, or in any way relating to your use of the website, resides in the courts of the District of Columbia and you further agree and expressly consent to the exercise of personal jurisdiction in the courts of the District of Columbia in connection with any such dispute including any claim involving the website or AAU and its employees, contractors, officers, directors, telecommunication providers, and content providers.  In any court action arising out of these Terms of Use, the prevailing party shall have its reasonable costs and attorney’s fees paid by the other party.

Privacy Policy

The Association of American Universities (“AAU”) respects the privacy of users of the AAU website. AAU never sells or rents any information it collects or gathers from users to any third party. Under no circumstances will AAU divulge any information about an individual user, including nonpublic information about a corporate person, to any third party.

AAU shares the details of this privacy notice with all of its employees to ensure they are aware of their obligation to use all reasonable measures to protect users’ information.

Use of Information

AAU utilizes information voluntarily provided by users of the AAU website to prepare future content based on users’ interests and to improve users’ experiences with the AAU website. AAU also utilizes such information to send out electronic newsletters and to enable users to participate in polls, surveys, message boards, and forums.

Users’ visits to the AAU website generate certain information that is automatically stored in log files, including Internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp and clickstream data. AAU operates secure data networks protected by firewall and password protection systems that are at least industry standard. AAU periodically reviews and enhances its security and privacy policies as necessary. Only authorized AAU employees and contractors have access to the information provided by AAU’s constituents. Any personally identifiable information provided in connection with purchases is encrypted end-to-end with industry-standard 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology and digital certificates. Unfortunately, no information transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure.  Accordingly, despite our efforts, AAU cannot guarantee or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us.

Opt-Out Policy and Correction or Removal of Personally Identifiable Information

AAU gives users practical options to remove themselves from AAU mailing lists and from participation in certain interactive areas of AAU’s website. You may correct, update or deactivate your personally identifiable information by emailing us at https://www.aau.edu/contact-us, or by contacting us by telephone or postal mail at the contact information listed below.

Children

This website is not designed or intended to attract children under the age of 13.  Consistent with the Federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), AAU will never knowingly request personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without requesting parental consent.
