AAU closely monitors and advocates for the budgets of federal agencies that are the primary funders of student financial aid and higher education programs, faculty scholarship, and basic scientific research that are vital to innovation and our nation’s economic competitiveness and national security.

Status of FY24 appropriations including the President’s FY24 Budget Request for AAU’s funding priorities at the National Science Foundation including Research and Related Activities, Education and Human Resources, and Major Research Equipment & Facilities Construction.
Status of FY24 appropriations including the President’s FY24 Budget Request for AAU’s funding priorities at the Department of Education including Title IV and Title VI funding.
Six coalitions joined a letter urging House and Senate Appropriations Committees to provide the highest possible FY24 302(b) allocation for the CJS Appropriations Subcommittee.
AAU sent a letter urging the leadership of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to prioritize investments in higher education, scientific research, and student aid in FY24 302(b) discretionary spending allocations.
The Coalition for National Security Research, of which AAU is a member, sent a letter to leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Defense urging increases in FY24 to the Department of Defense’s science and technology program.
House members signed DCL in support of $11.3 billion for NSF in FY24 CJS Appropriations bill.
The Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Coalition, which includes AAU, sent a letter to the leadership of the House and Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittees requesting no less than $500 million for AFRI in FY24.
Nearly 400 members of the Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research, including AAU and many AAU member institutions, joined a statement recommending that Congress provide at least $50.924 billion for the National Institutes of Health in FY24.
CNSF sent letters to congressional science appropriators requesting at least $11.9 billion in funding for the National Science Foundation in FY24.
