AAU closely monitors and advocates for the budgets of federal agencies that are the primary funders of student financial aid and higher education programs, faculty scholarship, and basic scientific research that are vital to innovation and our nation’s economic competitiveness and national security.

The Coalition for National Security Research, which includes AAU and other organizations, sent a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin urging an increase in FY24 over the FY23 funding levels for defense science and technology (S&T) programs, including the defense basic research programs.
The Energy Sciences Coalition, of which AAU is a member, sent a letter urging House and Senate leaders of the appropriations subcommittees on energy and water to appropriate at least $8.1 billion for the DOE Office of Science in FY23.
AAU wrote a letter to Congress urging them to finish FY23 appropriations process this fall.

The Coalition for National Science Funding, which includes AAU, sent a letter urging the leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to provide the highest possible FY23 302(b) allocation for the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittees.
The Coalition for Aerospace and Science sent a letter to leaders of the House and Senate Subcommittees on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies requesting at least $27.84 billion in funding for NASA in FY23, including $9 billion for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate.
AAU and others asked the leaders of the House and Senate appropriations committees to include a robust investment of more than $49 billion in the FY23 spending package for the National Institutes of Health.
