AAU, along with 80 other organizations, sent letters to Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and to Senate Agriculture and Appropriations Committee leadership expressing their support for the America Grows Act, legislation that would authorize a five percent annual funding increase over the next five years for USDA research – including AFRI research.

AAU and APLU sent a letter to Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, Office of Management and Budget Acting Director Russel Vough, Speaker Pelosi, and Leaders McCarthy, McConnell, and Schumer urging them to work together to negotiate a bipartisan budget agreement that raises the discretionary spending caps for FY2020 and FY2021. 

The Task Force on American Innovation (TFAI) sent a letter to Congressional leaders urging the passage of a bipartisan, bicameral budget agreement that will raise the FY20 and FY21 defense and non-defense discretionary spending caps.

A group of 13 coalitions, nine of which AAU is a member, today sent a letter to Congressional leaders urging them to work toward a bipartisan agreement to raise the Budget Control Act’s budget caps for FY20 and 21. The letter asserts that “a bipartisan agreement is needed to permit robust federal investments in America’s scientific enterprise and ensure that the United States remains the global innovation leader.”

The Coalition for National Science Research (CNSR), of which AAU is a proud member, sent a letter to leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Defense, providing CNSR's recommendations for funding levels for the Defense S&T program, and select Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) program elements (PEs) in the FY2020 Defense Appropriations bill.

AAU issued a statement to thank House Appropriators for their efforts to increase funding for higher education and scientific research in the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education Appropriations Bill.

A letter was sent to the Senate Chairman Jerry Moran and Ranking Member Jeanne Shaheen requesting the maximum possible increase in funding for FY20 from FY19 levels for the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
