Senator Collins (R-ME) is leading a “Dear Colleague” letter to Chair Murray and Ranking Member Blunt urging support for robust funding increases for the federal TRIO programs.

AAU, ACE, and other higher education organizations sent a letter to the leadership of the House and Senate education committees endorsing the College Transparency Act (S. 839/H.R. 2030) and urging the inclusion of CTA language currently in the America COMPETES Act in the final and reconciled version of the United States Innovation and Competition Act and the America COMPETES Act.

AAU President Barbara R. Snyder sent a letter to members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee in support of Nasser Paydar’s nomination as assistant secretary for postsecondary education at the Department of Education.

Representative Cicilline (D-OR) is leading a letter requesting that the House Appropriations Committee provide a robust funding for the Federal Pell Grant Program in Fiscal Year 2023 so that the maximum individual award can be increased to $12,990, which is nearly double the current maximum award. The letter also asks  appropriators to secure the long-term affordability impact of the Pell Grant program for years to come by indexing the maximum award amount to inflation and ensuring that funding for the program is fully mandatory, rather than discretionary.

House Members are leading a letter requesting increased funding for Campus-Based Student Financial Aid Programs in Title IV of the Higher Education Act in FY23. The letter requests The Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) program be funded at $1.061 billion, and that the Federal Work Study (FWS) program be funded at $1.48 billion.

Representative Bonomici (D-OR) is leading a  “Dear Colleague” letters requesting $815 Million for the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) in FY23. IES is a semi-independent and nonpartisan agency of the U.S. Department of Education that evaluates education policies and advances education research. Its programs produce evidence-based practices that strengthen teaching and learning, and information that is used to measure the effectiveness of educational reform

The Friends of Institute of Education Sciences, a coalition of 38 higher education organizations and universities including AAU, sent a letter encouraging House and Senate appropriators to provide at least $815 million for IES in the FY23 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies appropriations bill.

AAU urges Congress to provide $814.5 million for the Institute for Education Sciences (IES) in FY23. IES supports high-quality education research that results in teaching and learning innovations that offer tremendous returns for our society.
