The Coalition for National Science Research (CNSR), of which AAU is a proud member, sent a letter to leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Defense, providing CNSR's recommendations for funding levels for the Defense S&T program, and select Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) program elements (PEs) in the FY2020 Defense Appropriations bill. 

The Coalition for National Security Research (CNSR), of which AAU is a member, wrote to the Senate and House Committees on Armed Services, providing FY20 recommendations for the Department of Defense (DOD) to continue to support transformational science and technology (S&T) research.&nbs

AAU urges Congress to provide at least $2.774 billion for DOD 6.1 basic research, $3.364 billion for DARPA, and $16.996 billion for DOD S&T in FY20.
Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Michael Griffin in late March released a memo that outlines new reporting requirements for all key personnel working on DOD research grants, contracts, and agreements.

"In an effort to begin to reach recommended funding levels, we urge you to include at least a 4 percent increase over enacted levels in the Defense S&T program including the defense basic research programs in the FY 2020 budget request."
AAU President Mary Sue Coleman today wrote to House and Senate Appropriations leaders to applaud their efforts in securing increased higher education and research investments in FY19 and urge completion of the remaining FY19 appropriations bills after the midterm elections.
