The following is a letter from 164 national organizations writing to express support for the work of the Joint Associations Group on Indirect Costs (JAG)'s effort to develop a new, more transparent model to support the essential costs of research.
AAU joined NAFSA, AILA, and more than 100 other organizations in submitting a letter to the Department of Homeland Security requesting an extension of "the public comment period for Proposed Rule on Establishing a Fixed Time Period of Admission and an Extension of Stay Procedure for Nonimmigrant Academic Students, Exchange Visitors, and Representatives of Foreign Information Media1 from 30 days to a minimum of 60 days."
AAU joined AAMC, APLU, and COGR in submitting comments to the National Institutes of Health Office of Science Policy on the "agency’s plan to address concerns with rising publication costs by limiting the allowability of these costs in NIH awards."
AAU signs letter urging congressional appropriators to include an anomaly in any continuing resolution to prevent NASA’s Science Mission Directorate from effectively receiving the White House’s proposed 47% cut, which would force the premature termination of dozens of missions despite Congress rejecting such reductions.

AAU joined the Association for Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and AUTM in sending a letter to Senate Committee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property leadership expressing support for the Patent Eligibility Restoration (PERA) Act, a bill that broadens the categories of eligibility for patenting.
AAU submitted a comment memo to the Department of Education in response to their request for comments on the implementation of H.R.1. AAU expressed concerns regarding clear definitions on graduate and professional degree programs, clearly communicating changes about available federal funds to all audiences, and including an additional constituency group to the negotiated rulemaking committee. Negotiated rulemaking for H.R.1 Implementation will run from the end of September to early January.
