Letters

The Section 127 Coalition, an alliance of more than 60 organizations, including AAU, sent a letter to express their strong support for the Employer Participation in Repayment Act, legislation that would "permanently enable employers to provide up to $5,250 of annual tax-free, student loan repayment educational assistance as a voluntary benefit to their employees under IRS Section 127."
AAU has signed a letter with APLU and COGR to Congress expressing concerns about recent disruptions to federally funded research in the United States. Specific issues include cash flow disruptions, unclear compliance requirements, abrupt project terminations, and a new NIH policy capping facilities and administrative costs reimbursement. Recommendations include reopening communication channels, ensuring continued research funding, providing clear guidance on new submissions and compliance requirements, honoring existing contractual obligations, and reconsidering policies that could negatively impact research infrastructure.
AAU joined ACE and 4 other higher education associations in sending a letter to the House Committee on Education & Workforce Leadership expressing their concerns on H.R.1048, the "Defending Transparency an Ending Rogue Regimes Engaging in Nefarious Transactions (DETERRENT)" Act.
AAU, COGR, and APLU wrote a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) expressing their concerns in response to the October 8th, 2024 announcement on “Research Access to Germplasm Developed with Federal Funds."
On February 7, AAU sent a letter to the leadership of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation supporting the nomination of Michael Kratsios as the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
On February 3, AAU joined ACE and 29 other higher education associations in sending a letter to Secretary Marco Rubio at the U.S. Department of State to bring attention to "major issues of importance for the higher education community".
AAU joined ACE and 51 other higher education associations in sending a letter to Acting Secretary Carter at the U.S. Department of Education requesting a delay to the deadline for reporting requirements in financial value transparency (FVT) and gainful employment (GE).

AAU signed a letter requesting Congress appropriate at least $25.43 billion for Fiscal Year 2025, an ambitious but justifiable increase that maintains development of key Artemis program elements; continues development of a balanced portfolio of science missions and research; and provides the funding growth needed to accommodate new and expanded technology development programs and scientific endeavors that will support the next generation of breakthrough research and exploration.  
The Task Force on American Innovation, which includes AAU, sent a letter to President-elect Donald Trump congratulating him on winning the election and urging him to “prioritize federal support for the U.S. scientific research enterprise, an essential component of our global competitiveness and prosperity.”
