Michael McRobbie, president of Indiana University and a professor of computer science, wrote about the impact of the universitiy's Online Education Initiative.
"This fall at IU, we have seen a record 5,066 students enrolled in more than 115 online degrees and over 2,000 online courses offered by IU, a 4 percent increase over last year’s record," McRobbie writes in an article for the Indianapolis Business Journal. "A remarkable 29,000 students—nearly a third of our total enrollment—are enrolled in at least one online course, a figure that has surged dramatically in the past four years, and those courses are accounting for more than one-tenth of all credit hours across the university and matching revenue."
"As our state’s other colleges and universities move forward and incorporate innovations in digital technologies into online, on-campus and hybrid learning environments, we must all make our decisions guided by what is best for our students and what they need, based in turn on the belief that serving students well is the best way to ensure we are strengthening the state’s workforce and improving the quality of life for all Hoosiers."
