AAU is committed to advocating for higher education legislation that supports our mission to advance society through education, research and discovery. On behalf of its members, AAU monitors and engages on a wide range of policy and appropriations-related education issues, including accreditation, graduate education, international programs, student aid, and other issues in the Higher Education Act. Of particular importance is the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA), which was last reauthorized in 2008 and is currently up for renewal. AAU looks forward to working with policymakers on the next reauthorization of the HEA.

AAU, Associations Call on Congressional Leaders to Retain Investments in Higher Education in the Build Back Better Act
AAU President Barbara R. Snyder sent a letter urging Senate and House budget committee leaders to make bold investments in the health, security, prosperity, and future of our nation as they craft the FY22 budget.
Senators Todd Young (R-IN) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) have circulated a “Dear Colleague” letter addressed to the leaders of the Senate Labor, HHS, Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee requesting that they include “robust funding for the Title VI/Fulbright-Hays International Ed
