AAU and many scientific societies, research organizations, and universities submitted comments to the Department of Transportation in support of the National Alliance on Biomedical Research’s  (NABR) legal complaint regarding airlines’ refusal to ship research animals.
The Coalition for National Security Research, of which AAU is a member, sent a letter to Congressman Shelby, Durbin, Granger, and Visclosky, thanking them for their strong support for the robust Defense Science & Technology funding levels in the final FY19 Defense-LHHS Appropriations bill.
AAU and several other associations wrote to House leadership to urge passage of the FY19 Labor-HHS-Education and Defense spending bill. The letter says the associations are grateful for the “meaningful increases for the programs that make college accessible and promote medical research.”

Fifteen Higher Education Associations including the Association of American Universities submitted a comment letter in response to Docket Number: ICEB-2017-0003 regarding the proposed increased program fees for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program.
AAU, along with several other higher education associations, wrote to the Education Department to express concerns with the department’s proposal to rescind existing gainful employment regulations and make changes to the College Scorecard.
AAU President Mary Sue Coleman sent a letter to House and Senate Appropriators urging them to adopt the Senate-passed funding levels for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and for the maximum Pell Grant.
