Letter from the AAU, APLU, AAMC and ACE sent to Senators Johnson and Peters, Chairman and Member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, regarding “The Safeguarding American Innovation Act” (S. 3997) prior to full committee consideration of the bill.
AAU thanks our colleagues at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who requested that the next COVID relief bill include provisions to provide certainty for international students in light of conflicting information from State and ICE.
Compete America, of which AAU is a member, sent a letter to leaders at the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of Management and Budget expressing concern about the July 6 ICE guidance.
AAU joined ACE and 79 other higher education organizations on a letter to acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf to strongly oppose the ICE guidance regarding international students and online courses, request the immediate withdrawal of the guidance, and request the department grant necessary flexibility for international students.

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) is circulating a "dear colleague" letter to urge the Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Chad Wolf to rescind the SEVP guidance relating to students that was released on July 6th, 2020
AAU joined ACE and 21 other higher education organization in calling for more guidance for international students and exchange visitors in connection with the reopening of colleges and universities for the upcoming fall 2020 semester. 
This memorandum to federal policymakers represents a compilation of responses received from AAU Senior Research Officers concerning the need to extend regulatory flexibilities granted to federal research agencies and to universities by the Office of Management in Budget in response to issues arising for the conduct of research resulting from COVID-19.
AAU joined ACE and 13 other organizations on a letter to the Education Department urging them to delay the implementation of the recently published Title IX rule, “Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance.”
AAU, ACE, and 8 other higher education associations sent a letter to the seven chairs and ranking member of the House committees in follow up to the letter sent to Secretary DeVos on Section 117.
