AAU joined ACE and 61 other higher education organizations in a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, and Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia. The letter responds to the April 22 White House executive order regarding immigration and share immigration and visa issues colleges and universities are concerned about for the upcoming fall semester. In the letter, the organizations offer themselves as a resource for the agencies as they review Section 6 of the order, particularly given the vital contributions international students make to the nation’s economy and education and research enterprise. The organizations also ask the State Department and DHS to extend regulatory flexibilities and visa prioritization for international students to continue or begin their studies online if their campus does not open in the fall or their visas are delayed.
