Graduates Aren't All Universities Produce

Mark Schlissel, president of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, warns that the new administration's proposed budget cuts for research agencies would have "severe consequences" in this guest commentary published by Bridge Magazine.

"For generations, America’s support of research has made us the leader – and the envy -- of the world," he writes. "The next generation, now studying in our classrooms and labs, is poised to extend our leadership and status as the world’s No. 1 economy, if we give them the support they deserve through investments in university research and training opportunities.

"Our global competitiveness and economic prosperity depend on strong and steady support of research that grows ideas into products, and students into educated graduates."
