The Colorado Learning Assistant (LA) Model: Launched at CU Boulder in 2003, its purpose is to increase STEM research faculty members’ awareness and involvement in evidence-based reforms and to support STEM teacher recruitment and preparation. The LA model has greatly improved STEM conceptual learning outcomes and has involved over 220 STEM faculty members who have transformed approximately 100 introductory and upper-division courses in 12 departments, 3 colleges and schools. Over 1300 LAs have been hired since 2003, impacting over 15,000 students each year. The program has almost tripled the number of talented STEM majors going into teaching careers and has respectively positively impacted the quality of high school instruction.
