The following is a statement from Association of American Universities President Barbara R. Snyder about the Fiscal Year 2022 budget priorities President Joe Biden outlined in his letter to House and Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee leaders today:
After years of spending caps that have held back federal higher education and research investments, President Biden’s discretionary budget outline charts a bold new course to a healthier, greener, more equitable, and more prosperous future for all Americans. In particular, we commend its proposals to increase the Pell Grant maximum award and expand Pell eligibility to DACA participants as well as make critical investments in NIH, NSF, the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, NASA, and other crucial scientific agencies.
We look forward to seeing the full details of President Biden’s budget and working with Congress to make strategic investments that will renew the government-university partnership for a new generation.
