The Coalition for National Science Funding, of which AAU is a member, sent letters to congressional science appropriators requesting at least $11.9 billion in funding for the National Science Foundation in FY24. The letters argue that an increase in funding for NSF would help transform innovative programs such as the new TIP Directorate, expand STEM programs, and advance foundational research and infrastructure programs. The letters also note the congressional support for such NSF programs in legislation already passed by Congress, stating that “Last year, large bipartisan majorities passed the CHIPS and Science Act, which authorized $15.7 billion for the agency in FY24.”
