In late 2001, the Association of American Universities established the Task Force on the Role and Status of the Humanities. AAU believed that its member institutions would benefit from a survey of trends and issues related to the humanities at major research universities and a sharing of successful practices.
The survey of best practices in the humanities at AAU universities was conducted in the summer of 2002.While most responded at that time,some continued to submit material over the next year.All member universities are represented in this report.
