AAU closely monitors and advocates for the budgets of federal agencies that are the primary funders of student financial aid and higher education programs, faculty scholarship, and basic scientific research that are vital to innovation and our nation’s economic competitiveness and national security.

CNSF Requests At Least $8.6 Billion for NSF

The Coalition for National Science Funding, of which AAU is a member, sent a letter to House and Senate Appropriations Committee leaders urging them to complete the FY20 Commerce-Justice-Science appropriations bill before the current continuing resolution expires November 21.

Agriculture Research Caucus Dear Colleague Letter

The Ag Research Caucus circulated a dear colleague letter asking Senate Leadership and Appropriators to fund AFRI at $460 million, consistent with the House-passed level. The letter is being led by Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL), Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), and Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-WA).

Coalitions Urge Congressional Leadership to Raise Budget Caps

A group of 13 coalitions, nine of which AAU is a member, today sent a letter to Congressional leaders urging them to work toward a bipartisan agreement to raise the Budget Control Act’s budget caps for FY20 and 21. The letter asserts that “a bipartisan agreement is needed to permit robust federal investments in America’s scientific enterprise and ensure that the United States remains the global innovation leader.”

CNSR Submit FY20 Recommendations for Defense S&T Program

The Coalition for National Science Research (CNSR), of which AAU is a proud member, sent a letter to leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Defense, providing CNSR's recommendations for funding levels for the Defense S&T program, and select Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) program elements (PEs) in the FY2020 Defense Appropriations bill.

CNSR Submit FY20 Recommendations for DOD

The Coalition for National Security Research (CNSR), of which AAU is a member, wrote to the Senate and House Committees on Armed Services, providing FY20 recommendations for the Department of Defense (DOD) to continue to support transformational science and technology (S&T) research.

AAU Joins Letter Requesting At Least $445 Million for AFRI in FY20

AAU joined the AFRI Coalition's letter to the House and Senate Chairs of the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittees requesting at least $445 million for AFRI in FY20 and commends USDA for requesting $500 million for the program.
