The University of Virginia’s AAU/STEM Initiative activities seeks to improve STEM teaching and learning through activities focused on improving the pedagogical practices used in STEM classes and building a sense of community among STEM instructors which will incubate, support, and sustain evidence based teaching. Specific focus has been on pedagogical innovation; supporting the use of active learning spaces; re-designs of large, introductory courses as well as specific lab courses; and supporting faculty through consultations and learning communities.
