The overarching mission is to foster broad-based incorporation of effective active-learning techniques in STEM courses throughout the university.

For students, the goals are to increase engagement, achieve long-term retention of information and deeper conceptual understanding, and increase satisfaction and persistence in STEM career paths.

For faculty, Washington University in St. Louis aims to impart and reinforce knowledge of active learning and successful implementation strategies, and to increase the number of faculty who incorporate and evaluate the impact of active learning in their courses.

Last, at an institutional level, WUSTL is evaluating its work and promoting cultural change toward these evidenced-based pedagogies.
