Lizbet Boroughs has served at AAU since April 2015. As the Associate Vice President for Federal Relations, she has primary responsibility for funding and policy issues related to the National Institutes of Health including regulatory issues, research costs and compliance, and access to scientific materials. Her portfolio also includes immigration and visa policy for students, scholars and faculty.
Prior to joining, AAU, Lizbet was Deputy Director of Government Relations at the American Psychiatric Association for fifteen years and was active in passage of federal programs for suicide prevention and increases in federal investment in neurological research. While at APA, she co-chaired the Mental Health Liaison Group, a coalition comprised of over 60 national organizations advocating for improved mental health and addiction services.
Lizbet received a Master of Science degree in Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill with a concentration in pharmacoeconomics and her undergrad degree in Political Science from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
