Hanan Saab

Associate Vice President for Federal Relations

Hanan Saab serves as AAU’s Associate Vice President for Federal Relations. In this role, she has primary responsibility for funding and policy issues related to the Department of Defense and Department of Energy. She also works on matters related to American innovation & competitiveness, scientific openness & security, and U.S. universities’ global engagement.

Prior to joining AAU in April 2019, Hanan worked for the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities leading the organization’s international advocacy and immigration & visa policy portfolio. She gained experience on global education issues as Policy Manager with NAFSA: Association of International Educators and Student Services Manager with CET Academic Programs. Hanan honed her legislative skills as an education policy fellow in the U.S. Senate.

Hanan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota, where she also began her career in the institution’s Learning Abroad Center. Her extensive international experiences include a year of foreign policy study at the American University in Cairo.
