Legal Analyst for Government Relations & Public Policy
Paul Stern joined AAU in December 2024 as the Legal Analyst for Government Relations and Public Policy. In this role, he is responsible for providing comprehensive legal support for the department, including regular litigation updates for staff and key constituency groups. He is also responsible for funding and policy issues related to the humanities, arts, and social and behavioral sciences, and provides strategic and legal guidance on AAU’s immigration portfolio. Paul manages AAU’s Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Task Force, and provides support in the management of the Immigration Task Force.
Before joining AAU, Paul spent nearly nine years with the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s Government Relations team where he advanced AILA’s policy priorities by assisting in drafting detailed policy briefs and legal resources, form and regulatory comments, and strengthening engagement with agency officials and members of Congress. He currently represents AAU as a member of AILA’s Student Visa Task Force.
Paul graduated cum laude from the American University, Washington College of Law and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. He is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia.
