AAU President Urges Congress to Enact Long-term Solution for All DACA Students and DREAMers

Following is a statement by Association of American Universities President Mary Sue Coleman regarding the DACA provisions in the compromise immigration bill (H.R. 6136) to be considered by the House:

AAU stands with the vast majority of Americans, who overwhelmingly support a permanent legal solution for DACA registrants. In September 2017, 57 AAU university presidents and chancellors urged swift congressional action on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of DACA students in the U.S.

After many long months of uncertainty, it is time for Congress to solve this untenable situation. Despite our concerns with the Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018, we are encouraged by Congress’ attention to this issue and appreciate the good faith effort to craft a long-term solution for DACA students. We believe more must be done to protect all young people brought to the U.S. through no fault of their own. We are committed to working with Congress to help forge a nonpartisan, permanent legislative solution to provide legal certainty for all DACA students and Dreamers.
