AAU President Mary Sue Coleman on the White House's Proposed Cuts in FY2017 Continuing Resolution

AAU President Mary Sue Coleman on the White House's Proposed Cuts in FY2017 Continuing Resolution:

In addition to the proposed cuts to federal investments in research and higher education in the Administration’s FY2018 budget blueprint, the White House is now proposing cuts in FY2017. Both sets of proposed cuts will hobble science and make college education less affordable for working families.

The Administration’s proposed cuts to the Pell Grant and other student aid programs, medical research at the National Institutes of Health, and innovative research at NASA, NSF, NEH, the Department of Energy, and other federal agencies would make college less accessible, turn the clock back on our economy, and make our nation less safe.

These proposed cuts head in the opposite direction that Congress proposed for FY2017, and we urge them to provide the student aid and research investment increases they have called for.
