Following is a statement by AAU President Mary Sue Coleman on a May 29 Associated Press report indicating the U.S. will impose limits on certain Chinese visas:
We share the administration’s goal of protecting our nation’s national and economic security. However, we must ensure that any changes to our visa system don’t negatively impact our ability to continue to research and develop the cures and technologies that drive our economy.
For generations, America has attracted and benefited from the world’s best and brightest, who have helped the U.S. build its global technological and economic dominance. We are fully committed to working with the administration to protect our national interests and grow our economy.
