Following is a statement by Association of American Universities President Mary Sue Coleman regarding the Senate FY19 Defense Appropriations bill, approved in committee yesterday:
We’re thrilled Senate appropriators have proposed significant increases to Defense Science & Technology program investments. We thank Subcommittee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-AL) and Ranking Member Dick Durbin (D-IL) for their forethought to invest in Department of Defense basic research that will serve the next generation of men and women in uniform. As part of America’s long-standing government-university partnership, AAU universities stand ready to work with DOD to create new technologies and innovations that will protect servicemembers and defend our nation.
We look forward to continuing to work with Congress to help ensure robust FY19 Defense S&T programs investments to provide a secure and technologically advanced future for our military.
