MARY SUE'S DESK: RENEWING THE HIGHER EDUCATION ACT SHOULD ENSURE OPPORTUNITY
AAU President Mary Sue Coleman yesterday released a new blog post to discuss the importance of increasing access and affordability as Congress works to reauthorize the Higher Education Act (HEA). She writes, "When students from all walks of life - especially people from low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented backgrounds - can access and afford higher education, America wins." President Coleman also comments on the House HEA bill, the PROSPER Act.

FY18 OMNIBUS EXPECTED NEXT WEEK
Congress is again running up to a tight deadline with federal spending set to expire March 23. To pass both chambers before the government shuts down at 12:01 a.m. next Saturday, the bill needs to be introduced by early next week. If not, Congress may be forced to pass another short-term continuing resolution to fund the government at current levels. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy today told reporters of the bill's introduction, "We'll get it done, hopefully by Monday."

NINTH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS TO HEAR DACA CHALLENGE
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals announced yesterday it will in May 2018 hear arguments over a federal injunction barring the administration's rescinding of DACA. The announcement comes weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the administration's request to bypass the Appeals Court.
