AAU, together with 36 higher education associations, sent a letter to House Appropriations Chair Nita Lowey (D-NY) and Ranking Member Kay Granger (R-TX) to express their strong support for the positive impact of the FY20 Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill on financial aid and biomedical research. The associations thanked appropriators for an $150 increase for the maximum Pell Grant, substantial increases for the Federal Work-Study and the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant programs, and funding increases for critical programs such as TRIO, GEAR UP, Title VI international education, and many more. The associations also lauded an $2 billion increase in NIH funding, which “plays in improving the quality of life for all Americans, while also strengthening our economy and global competitiveness.”
