AAU, Associations Call on President to Withdraw Executive Order Prohibiting or Limiting Diversity and Inclusion Training by Federal Contractors and Grantees

AAU joined ACE and 53 other higher education organizations on a letter to President Trump asking him to withdraw his Sept. 22 executive order on “Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping.” The letter says that “the timing, content, and discordant tone of [the] Executive Order is creating concern, confusion, and uncertainty for federal contractors and grant recipients across the country.” The organizations also highlight several discrepancies and conflicts between the Sept. 22 order and other executive orders, including the expansion of regulatory burdens the administration previously opposed and the direct conflict with President Trump’s previous order encouraging free speech on campuses. The OMB released a memo about the order, and the Labor Department created a FAQ document.
