COALITION LETTER URGES INCREASED ALLOCATION FOR LABOR-HHS-EDUCATION FUNDING BILL

A coalition of nearly 800 organizations, including AAU, on May 8 sent a letter to House and Senate appropriations committee leaders urging them to increase the FY18 subcommittee allocation for the Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill.

The letter noted that while nondefense discretionary spending rose by 6.9 percent in FY16, funding for the Labor-HHS-Education bill rose by only 3.3 percent. The organizations urged a higher allocation for the subcommittee and expressed willingness to work with congressional leaders on a bipartisan budget agreement to stop sequestration and raise the caps for nondefense discretionary programs.
