AAU RELEASES REPORT ON ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS AND DATA SOURCES ON UNDERGRADUATE STEM EDUCATION
AAU released a report on Thursday titled Essential Questions and Data Sources for Continuous Improvement of Undergraduate STEM Teaching and Learning. The report provides a set of key questions designed to engage institutional leaders and faculty in discussions about effective teaching and learning. The report also profiles data sources and analytical tools to answer these key questions and inform decision-making, as well as provides guidance to address common challenges in evaluating the quality and efficacy of undergraduate education.
This report is a complementary resource to the previously-released Framework for Systemic Change in Undergraduate STEM Teaching and Learning, which provides a set of institutional elements needed to enact sustainable change and highlights innovative institutional efforts implementing those changes.
TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ASKS SUPREME COURT TO REINSTATE TRAVEL BAN
On Thursday, the Trump Administration asked the Supreme Court to reinstate the President's plan to temporarily ban individuals from six majority-Muslim countries, bringing the controversial legal battle to the nation's highest court. Last week, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a district court's nationwide preliminary injunction blocking the executive order establishing the ban, finding that the order's stated national security interest was provided in bad faith as a pretext for the order's religious purpose.
In the government's filing, Justice Department lawyers argue the Fourth Circuit should not have questioned the President's motivations and instead should have considered the language of the executive order only. The filing asks the Supreme Court to set aside the Fourth Circuit ruling and accept the case for oral arguments. The case is likely be heard later this Fall.
