EDUCATION DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES “PROACTIVE” COMPLIANCE UNIT IN OCR
The Education Department Tuesday announced it would launch the Outreach, Prevention, Education and Non-Discrimination Center in its Office of Civil Rights. According to the department, the new OPEN Center will focus on “proactive compliance with federal civil rights laws” and ensure schools, educators, families, and students are better aware of the “requirements and protections of federal non-discrimination laws.”
AAU, ASSOCIATIONS ENCOURAGE SENATE TO ADVANCE AIM HIGH ACT
AAU recently joined five other higher education institutions in sending a letter to Sen. Elizabeth Warren to thank her for reintroducing the bipartisan Accessible Instructional Materials in Higher Education Act. The letter says this legislation would help colleges and universities better serve students with disabilities by providing them “with valuable guidance on how best to incorporate technology that increases accessibility and ensures equal opportunities to learn for all students.”
