OSTP RELEASES RFI ON PUBLIC ACCESS TO RESEARCH OUTPUTS
The Office of Science and Technology Policy released a request for information titled “Public Access to Peer-Reviewed Scholarly Publications, Data and Code Resulting From Federally Funded Research” Wednesday, which aims to “explore opportunities to increase access to unclassified published research, digital scientific data, and code supported by the U.S. Government.” Comments should be sent to Lisa Nichols with the subject line “RFI Response: Public Access” by March 16, 2020. AAU will submit comments and request an extension of the comment period.

ESC REQUESTS AT LEAST $7.4 BILLION FOR DOE OFFICE OF SCIENCE
The Energy Sciences Coalition, which includes AAU, sent a letter to Congress thanking Members for their strong, bipartisan support for the Energy Department’s Office of Science in FY20. In the letter, the Coalition urges Congress to provide at least $7.4 billion for the Office of Science, a 4 percent increase above FY20 levels. This funding level, the letter says, would sponsor vital research and development that advance critical industries of the future and prevent the United States from falling further behind our global competitors.
SAA REQUESTS INCREASES TO PELL, VARIOUS STUDENT AID FUNDING
The Student Aid Alliance, of which AAU is a member, sent a letter to congressional Appropriations leaders thanking them for their efforts to support student aid funding programs in FY20, and asking for their continued support in FY21. The Alliance requests increased funding for various student aid programs, including: raising the Pell Grant maximum award to $7,000; funding Supplemental Opportunity Grants at $1.052 billion; providing $1.467 billion for Federal Work-Study; and increasing Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need to at least $35 million.
