AAU joined ACE and 75 other higher education organizations on a letter to congressional leaders urging them to “quickly enact temporary and targeted liability protections related to the COVID-19 pandemic.” Colleges and universities are facing unprecedented challenges as they work to resume campus-based operations, with the paramount goal of keeping their students, employees, visitors, and local communities safe. At the same time, the potential for enormous costs associated with COVID-19-related lawsuits is likely to have a chilling effect on decision-making related to reopening campuses, the organizations say.
