Honorable Sherwood Boehlert
Chairman
House Committee on Science
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Mr. Chairman,

On behalf of the Association of American Universities, thank you for successfully steering H.R. 4664 through the House of Representatives. We strongly support this bill. Your leadership on behalf of the research and education supported by the National Science Foundation has been extremely important. We are also very appreciative of the support shown by your many co-sponsors on this bipartisan legislation.

Your bill recognizes that basic research is the best investment we can make to ensure long-term economic prosperity, and to train the next generation of technically proficient participants in America's workforce. Substantial increases in the NSF budget will help to achieve breakthroughs in knowledge that we cannot today predict, but that we can be confident will keep our nation at the leading edge of global science and technology for many years to come.

Please let us know if we may be of assistance to you in any way.

Cordially,
Nils Hasselmo
President
