AAU Staff Directory & Contacts

President/ Executive Office

President
Responsible for the overall activities of the association, and works with the AAU Board of Directors and the member presidents and chancellors to define and implement the association's mission and agenda.

Director for Partners Programs
Oversees the AAU Partners meetings and programs, provides advice and support to the AAU Partners Council.

Assistant to the President
Supports the president and staffs the Board of Directors. Assists in the planning of the biannual AAU membership meetings.

Senior Fellow
Responsible for issues related to patents, research libraries, and scholarly communication.

Federal Relations

Vice President for Federal Relations and Administration
Oversees and coordinates AAU’s federal relations activities. Oversees AAU’s office operations and finance. Has primary responsibility for overall federal budget and appropriations advocacy. Shares responsibility for other issues related to research and higher education. Staffs the AAU Board of Directors, the AAU Membership Committee, and the Chief Academic Officers (CAO) and Council on Federal Relations (CFR) constituent groups.

Deputy Vice President for Federal Relations
Responsible for issues related to the National Institutes of Health, biomedical research, and biosecurity. Shares responsibility for issues related to graduate education, scientific openness and security, research costs, and the USDA’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative. Coordinates the Council on Federal Relations (CFR) constituent group. Staffs the Association of Graduate Schools (AGS) constituent group.

Associate Vice President for Federal Relations
Responsible for issues related to the National Science Foundation, NASA, and Department of Defense and Department of Energy research. Shares responsibility for monitoring export control issues. Staffs the AAU Internationalization Issues Forum.

Associate Vice President for Federal Relations
Responsible for issues related to higher education, including: accreditation, student aid, college affordability, and undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral and international education. Responsible for issues related to the humanities.

Federal Relations Associate
Responsible for writing and analysis in support of AAU’s federal relations agenda. Monitors legislation, covers hearings, and participates in meetings with various advocacy coalitions. Shares responsibility for issues related to Department of Defense research, Department of Education international education programs, student aid appropriations, and USDA’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative.

Federal Relations Assistant
Supports the federal relations department. Assists in planning the CFR monthly and annual meetings and the Association of Graduate Schools (AGS) annual meeting.

AAU Policy

Vice President for Policy
Oversees and coordinates AAU’s policy activities including the AAU undergraduate STEM education initiative. Responsible for matters relating to science policy. Shares responsibility for matters concerning export controls, scientific openness and security, technology transfer, regulatory reform and research costs. Staffs the Senior Research Officers (SRO) constituent group.

Associate Vice President for Policy
Responsible for issues related to intellectual property, information technology, higher education tax policy, and immigration and visa policy. Shares responsibilities for other regulatory, compliance and legal issues.

Director of Policy Analysis
Responsible for identifying and conducting research and policy analysis that underpin AAU policy positions and recommendations, as well as supports AAU’s mission and objectives. Staffs AAU Membership Committee, liaison to AAU Data Exchange.

Policy Assistant
Supports the AAU policy department staff and activities. . Assists in the planning of the Senior Research Officers (SRO) annual meeting. Coordinates the AAU Intern Program.

Project Director, AAU Undergraduate STEM Education Initiative
Responsible for directing and managing the logistical, technical and substantive components of the AAU Undergraduate STEM Education Initiative.

Project Assistant, AAU Undergraduate STEM Education Initiative
Supports the Project Director in all aspects related to the overall management and day-to-day operations of the AAU Undergraduate STEM Education Initiative.

Public Affairs

Vice President for Public Affairs
Oversees and coordinates AAU’s public affairs and media relations activities. Responsible for developing and implementing communications and media strategies to support AAU's policy, advocacy, and other goals. Staffs the Public Affairs Network (PAN) constituent group.

Associate Vice President for Public Affairs
Serves as deputy to Vice President for Public Affairs and as editor of AAU's website and constituency communications. Staffs the Public Affairs Network (PAN) constituent group.

Public Affairs Assistant
Supports the Vice President for Public Affairs and the Associate Vice President for Public Affairs administratively and in social media, website, and other activities. Assists in planning the Public Affairs Network (PAN) annual meeting.

Office Operations

Chief Operating Officer
Oversees AAU’s IT and meetings departments. Responsible for office operations, human resources, and personnel. Coordinates the implementation of AAU’s graduate education data collection efforts. Staffs AAU Membership Committee, liaison to AAU Data Exchange.

Chief Financial Officer
Manages the association’s accounting and financial activities and employee benefits.

Office Operations Assistants
Supports the office operations including finance, benefits, human resources, and the executive office. Assists in the planning of the Chief Academic Officers (CAO) annual meeting.

Director of Information Technology
Responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and execution of all AAU IT functions.

Meetings Manager
Responsible for all logistical planning and on-site management of the biannual AAU membership meeting and the CFR annual meeting. Plans all logistical aspects of other constituent group meetings, the CFR monthly meetings, and various ad hoc and in-town meetings and events.

Office and Meetings Assistant
Answers phones and provides general office support. Assists the meeting manager with the logistical planning and coordinating of AAU’s conference rooms and AAU constituent meetings. Coordinates the AAU Partners constituent group program and meetings.
