Ann Leigh Speicher
Ann Leigh Speicher is Associate Vice President for Public Affairs. She serves as deputy to the Vice President for Public Affairs and participates in all public affairs activities. She has primary responsibility for AAU’s internal communications to its constituents and special-topic webpages, and writes and edits other communications and advocacy materials. She staffs the Public Affairs Network (PAN) constituent group.
Ann began her career in Washington as an investigator on the Senate Judiciary Committee, followed by service on the staff of Rep. Robert Matsui (D-CA). She left the Hill to become a legislative representative for the University of California system, and then became manager of the Public Affairs Office at the American Society for Engineering Education, where she also staffed the ASEE Engineering Deans Council.
Ann holds a BA in English from the University of California, Davis, and an MA in Journalism from the University of California, Berkeley. While a graduate student at Berkeley she co-authored a book, “The Cartoon History of California Politics.”
