AAU STEM INITIATIVE Project Manager

 

The Association of American Universities (AAU), an organization of 62 leading public and private research universities in the U.S. and Canada, seeks applications for the position of Project Manager for the AAU Undergraduate Science, Technology, Education and Math (STEM) Education Initiative (see: http://www.aau.edu/policy/article.aspx?id=12588). This initiative is aimed at achieving systemic reform of the undergraduate teaching methods used at major universities in an effort to improve retention of students with an interest in majoring in STEM fields and to enhance STEM learning among all students.

Under the guidance of the Vice President for Policy, the STEM Project Manager will oversee all logistical components of the STEM Initiative and will also provide technical and substantive support for the Initiative as needed. The STEM Project Manager will work with AAU staff, the AAU Senior Advisor for STEM Education, the project co-Principal Investigator, the Technical Advisory Committee, campus contacts at AAU institutions and other associations and organizations. The STEM Project Manager will be an experienced project manager, willing to pitch in at all levels of the effort, who is interested in science and higher education policy. He or she should be flexible, comfortable interacting with a wide range of stakeholders, and possess strong oral and written communication skills.

The ideal candidate has solid business acumen, strong operational skills, and a track record for delivering results. He/she has strong leadership and demonstrated staff and project management skills. Operational excellence, client service and cost management are a must. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, proactive and able to change direction quickly to meet the dynamic needs of the AAU Office as they relate to the STEM initiative. He/she has experience in effectively leading change. Must have the ability to manage and oversee projects and grants with sizable budgets, helping to guide these projects to successful implementation and monitor them through the course of their life cycle.

Applicants are expected to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (advanced degree a plus) and interest and experience in project oversight and management. Knowledge of and/or experience addressing key issues in undergraduate and/or STEM education is desired, but not required. Strong interest in this area is a must.
