AAU Internship Program

The Association of American Universities (AAU) offers two unpaid internships for undergraduate and graduate students in its Washington, D.C. office for  the fall, spring, and summer semesters. These internships focus on science and higher education policy and public affairs.

Policy interns at AAU engage in a wide variety of policy-related activities while working with senior policy and staff. They conduct research, analyze bills, attend congressional and agency hearings, draft congressional correspondence, work on briefing papers, and participate in AAU meetings and related activities.

Public affairs interns work with senior communications staff to develop materials on the value of research and higher education, perform media audits, evaluate websites, and assist with editing documents. They also may assist with AAU's web and social media presence.

AAU's goal is to provide interns with a solid understanding of the federal policy-making process and to give them practical experience in how the higher education community works to communicate its views and affect federal funding and policy decisions.  AAU staff works with students to ensure their time in Washington is substantive and aligns with their academic and future career interests.

Currently, there are no available internship positions.
